First Visit Before 1st Birthday

The ADA recommends parents take children to the dentist by the child’s first birthday. In addition to checking for decay and other possible problems, the dentist will teach you how to properly clean your child’s teeth daily, evaluate any adverse habits such as thumb sucking, and identify your child’s fluoride needs. Begin brushing your child’s teeth with a little water as soon as the first tooth appears. If you are considering using toothpaste before age two, ask your dentist or physician first.

Preventative Care

Some dental problems begin very early in life. Early childhood tooth decay can be devastating to your child’s health, jaw growth and development, and permanent tooth eruption. Simple preventative techniques and the appropriate use of fluoride supplements can prevent tooth decay. The baby teeth serve as the foundation for the proper eruption of the permanent teeth. Some Oral habits (such as finger or pacifier sucking) can also interfere with normal jaw development and tooth eruption. The earlier the dental visit, the better the chances of preventing problems.

Anxiety and Sedation

Sedation may be needed if your child has a lot of anxiety, several procedures need to be done, or if they have special needs. Mild sedatives are used to assist with your child’s comfort. Our doctors have the training and experience to provide the best in care.
